Getting ready for this year’s show season can be far more productive if you are well prepared and organized. Here’s our guide to equestrian riding apparel. We hope this saves you some time and money when you plan for this season’s horse shows. Our guide starts from the top (with helmets) and finishes with boots and other accessories.

Show Clothes Guide

Riding helmet (black or dark): Riding helmets are a crucial piece of equipment in and out of the ring, on and off the horse. Show riding helmets are always either black or dark colored and must be ASTM/SEI certified. Advance Technology offers several new styles of riding helmets that provide protection while looking stylish

Two show jackets (grey, black, or brown): Show jackets are nearly always dark colored, beige, or grey. It is always a good idea to bring at least one extra jacket, just in case your horse decides to demonstrate some affection with a sloppy kiss, or coffee gets spilled on the lapel.

Three (or more) show shirts/ratcatchers plus choker: Tailored Sportsman has several styles that wick away moisture and provide a comfortable fit while looking stylish. The Edwards, Beckett, and Morrison show shirts are an affordable addition to your wardrobe. Most show shirts come with two-button choker collars.

Collar pins & Stock ties: be sure to bring these items. They don’t take up much space, but they are necessary components of your wardrobe.

Three pairs of breeches or jodhpurs: Show breeches are generally light colored or white, as in the case of dressage. Breeches come in several styles and cuts. They can be full seat, low rise, front zip, pull on, or side zip. Tuffrider’s CoolMax LowRise show circuit breeches provide fit, comfort, and style at an affordable price. The low rise cut is the most popular in and out of the show ring this season, with its more natural feel and increased freedom of movement over more traditional styles. Just don’t forget to bring a belt, whatever style is chosen.

Tall black riding boots (field or dress): Ovation finalist PRO boots look great in the ring and are available from The Equestrian Corner at an excellent price. The Equestrian Corner has many styles of horse riding boots on sale now, making this a good time to replace a worn-out pair, or to buy an extra pair for future use.

Other items that should be part of any show wardrobe guide include gloves, spurs, a crop, extra socks, hair nets, hair ties, bobby pins, safety pins, rain gear, a lint roller, a sewing kit, and a basic first aid kit, just in case.

I saw these really great items today while I was online shopping – only my favorite thing to do! Sharing a great online vendor with trusted brands at great prices – my next favorite thing. Simply go to www.theequestriancorner. They have an easy to use site, so click on over to their Young Rider Shop, and get those kids all dressed for equestrian success and riding fun.

I’ve been trying to learn more about equestrian competitions. My daughter has been taking lessons for a short while, and she seems to have some talent and of course passion for the whole horse experience. When she was much younger, we joined The Pony Club, and as they say – the rest is history. I love the show clothes, and asked a couple of the moms where they order their classy looking shirts, jackets and breeches. Overwhelming recommendation was an online retailer – www.theequestriancorner. They raved about the complete selection of products for men, women, and young rider across all horse disciplines — eventing, endurance, dressage, hunter/jumper, or just the casual rider. I’ve checked out their site, and we’ve even bookmarked a couple of pages, and made our own recommendations of this retailer’s products on both Facebook and Twitter.

At a horse show the judge focuses on you, so having the proper show clothes is an essential. Any dedicated horseback rider knows that English riding show clothes should be classy and properly fit for competitive level riding. Be sure to have comfortable fitting horse riding breeches that fit snug but not too tight. Pair these with your tall leather horse riding boots or elegant field boots for the ultimate dressage show boot in the ring. Top of your outfit with an equestrian show coat made of polywool blend fabric and stretch lining for ease of movement. It is important to make sure your show clothes are properly tailored to ensure the judge can see your form while riding.

As the name suggest, regular clothing is for everyday riding and show clothing is for horse shows. Riders take pride in showing their horse and themselves at various shows. Thus, getting proper show clothes is very important, because after all it is a contest. You can get a “show” version of almost all riding apparel – shirts, coats, breeches, and etc. Although these clothes and equipment are primarily for shows, you should not forget safety. When selecting your clothes and equipment, be sure to buy known and reputed brands.
