An Inside Look At Spring Horse Shows

There are many horse shows coming up this spring season and its best to be prepared for the top events. We wanted create a list of a few important one’s to check out and make sure you mark your calendars!

  • 2011 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event (April 28–May 1, 2011): The 2011 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, presented by Bridgestone is held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY and is the 14th championship for the U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation Pinnacle Cup, showcasing the select elite. The event attracts over 80,000 attendees and is seen by millions more worldwide via telecasts including a 90-minute special on NBC. Additional Information
  • Del Mar National Horse Show: This huge event is held at the Del Mar Horsepark Equestrian Center in Del Mar, CA and comprised of the Western week (April 21 – 24), Dressage Week (April 28 – May 1) and Hunter/Jumper Week (May 3 – 8). The event draws more than 1,500 horses of every breed and training, ready to compete to win a wide variety of ribbons, trophies, titles and prize money. Additional Information

  • Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows (May 10 – 22, 2011): Old Salem Farm will hold its 2011 spring horse shows at its facility in North Salem, NY. The Farm is famous for its historic grass Grand Prix field, state-of-the-art stabling facility and three all-weather outdoor rings. In honor of Mother’s Day, Old Salem Farm will host a local horse show on Sunday, May 8. The admission is free and families are encouraged to watch local exhibitors compete and prepare for the two weeks of competition ahead as well as participate in many other activities. Local Day will feature a full day of showing at every level and is the perfect warm-up opportunity for the spring horse shows. Additional Information

  • Atlanta Spring Premiere (May 11-15, 2011): This show is hosted by the United States Hunter Jumper Association and is held at the Georgia International Horse Park in Convers, FL. The series of events includes two weeks of AA hunter competition as well as a World Championship Hunter Rider Event (in week 1), a USHJA National Hunter Classic (also in week 1), a $10,000 USHJA Hunter Derby (in week 2). Jumpers are able to win a $25,000 Grand Prix prize, two $5,000 Open Welcome Stake classes, and a $7,500 High Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper classic each week. Additional Information

  • Kentucky Spring Horse Show (May 11-15, 2011): Also sponsored by the United States Hunter Jumper Association and held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, this horse show series draws top riders from across the country to partake in jumper classes and grand prix events. There are two grand prix events each week, and jumping riders have the chance to compete for over $340,000. The show will also feature the Commonwealth Grand Prix on May 15 and the Kentucky Spring Classic will feature the Mary Rena Murphy Grand Prix on Saturday, May 21. Additional Information
  • Devon Horse Show (May 26-Jun 5, 2011): In 2010 Devon has become just the fourth American horse show to be honored with the designation as a USEF Heritage Competition. This award is reserved for those competitions that have been in existence for more than a quarter century, promoted and grown the equestrian sport, and made a contribution to the community outside the gates of the horse show by achieving, maintaining and promoting the equestrian ideals of sportsmanship and competition. The event is sponsored this year by Wells Fargo and is held at the Devon Horse Show & County Fairgrounds in Devon, PA. Additional Information
