For instance, if you live in a warm, dry climate, then you likely won’t have to worry about a horse blanket with a fleece lining and waterproof shell. But if the temperature has a tendency to dip dangerously low, then a warm lining becomes critical.

Outer shell
The outer shell of a horse blanket should be made of a very strong material such as 1000 or 1200 denier ballistic nylon. Lesser fabrics are not as durable and are more prone to ripping and tearing, so avoid the cheap stuff if possible.
